Short-Term Running Goals:

In the next couple years I would like to focus on the Marathon. My goal is to hit the Olympic "A" Standard in the next 2 years. I would also like to place at a USA marathon championship in the top 10. I have a long way to go, but I have a long time to get there.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Running in the Olympics would have to be my long time running goal. That would be awesome.

Personal:

I married Meagan in March 2005. We don't have any kids yet. Both Meagan and I ran at the University of Utah, and then we transferred to Utah State in Fall 2005 because the U of U dropped their Men's Track and Field program.

I was extremely nervous for my first marathon. I wasn't really sure how to approach it. I knew that I was in good 10k shape, but it was clear that Logan Fielding was the favorite. So I decided to stick with the leaders through 21 miles. I tucked in behind Logan and he pulled us through the first 10 miles, then it hit me. I needed to go pee. I hoped there would be an outhouse at mile 11, but no luck, so shortly before mile 12 I told Logan that I was going to surge ahead to get to the portapotties at the half mark. I built up a 10-15 second lead, and it only took a minute, in and out. (Yeah, I got some funny looks from the spectators.) By now I was a long way behind Logan, so I went to work hard the next 1.5 miles. I caught Logan up the hill before mile 15. When we topped the hill it was obvious that something wasn't right with Logan.  He had a major side ache.  Our pace slowed for several miles, we didn't even pick it up very much when we started going down the canyon.  I felt bad for Logan and stuck with him until mile 21.  At that point I shifted back into race pace, and Logan had his hamstring go out on him.  It was clear by the time that I got out of the canyon that I was going to win.  I told Trevor Ball that I felt like I could race a 5k right then.  I enjoyed the feeling, and hoped that my body would continue feeling that good, it did.  And that is the story of my first marathon.  I was greatful for the advise and running of Sasha, Logan, Paul and Trevor Ball.  You guys made all the difference.  Thanks

I showed up to the Magna 5k to try to run it with Teren Jameson. I knew he would go out fast, so I went with him. 4:17 first mile downhill with wind on the back. I settled into pace with Teren, then just before mile 2 my legs felt the wear of the Ogden Marathon, I decided to ease up and run for 2nd overall. I did this and it was a ton of fun.

By the Way, I did 6 x 1 mile repeats rabbiting for Kara Goucher after the Magna 5k. It was a blast.  Alberto Salazar was there, along with some of his athletes. (Josh Rohatinsky, Galen Rupp, Adam Goucher, and a Ugandan, who holds the NCAA 800m record.)  They were all really nice.  Kara was a blast to work out with.  I hope that the trials go well for her, and then the Olympics.

I have won this 5k 4-5 times.  Usually there isn't much competition.  But this year the race was stacked with college runners.  I just pushed the first 2 miles, and then jogged into the finish with Dustin Bybee (BYU).  He easily outkicked me the last 400m.  It was a fun run.

The mileage was slow and easy, just a good recovery.

I did an easy 7 miles to shake out in the morning.  I ended up running 10 miles at night.  Today was pretty flat and easy.

Just a easy jog for Meagan's Birthday.  Logan Canyon is beautiful at this time of the year.

I ran alone this morning following the beautiful canal trails in Logan.  I ran 13.2 miles in 1:32.  It felt good to get the legs moving this morning.

Tonight I ran 6.3 with Taylor Price straight up a mountain in Logan Canyon. It was beautiful and the entire mountain was green.

I went on a relaxing run up Logan Canyon with Trever Ball and Taylor.  It was a blast.  We just talked the entire time.  It was nice to run with my old friends.  I am getting more and more exited for the Wasatch Back, and  the Des News Marathon.  That should be fun.
