I woke up super early to get to the bus by 3:30 am. Then I warmed up. I noticed that there were more than just the 2-3 anticipated kenyans, there were 6. That wasn't very exciting. I went out comfortably fast the first half marathon. I was with the kenyans at 12 miles and then they took off. By the time that I was out of the canyon, 16 miles in, then I was feeling horrible. My legs were just not moving. Sasha ran with me for about 2 miles until mile mark 20. The last 10k were the most miserable miles that I have ever run. I was walking and then jogging about 8 minute pace. I was just glad for the race to be over. After the race then my legs hurt horribly. But I ate some food and within 20-30 minutes I was feeling good. I am about 95% recovered three days later. Great job Fast Running Blog runners.

I wish I could keep an 8 mile pace for even a half marathon.

Welcome to the most horrible marathon in Utah! It is a gut check. I can feel your pain on that course. You did awesome and dont forget that. To be next to kenyans at those miles you were at is great. Keep up the good work and Ill see you at the next marathon maybe!?

Good job, Seth, on a tough race. The marathon is a very fickle race and when it goes bad, it goes REALLY bad as it seems you found out. We've all had these days, though- heck, Logan ran 2:55 at Ogden in 2007, then a 2:21 later at St. George. Chalk it up to experience and keep up your training. A 2:45 on a bad day is still better than 99% of people, so no worries.

By the way, have you moved to SLC now?

We all don't have great races all the time. You will bounce back for sure and do much better in the next one.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience. These are what mold us into great marathoners though. Look to the future:)

Thanks guys.

It was definitely a learning experience. I am excited for the next marathon. Now I can just run high mileage and relax. Life is good.

PS Jon, I am going to still live in Logan for 1 more year.
